The boycotting Mayors and District Council Chairpersons of the All People’s Congress (APC) held a meeting with Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, following an official invitation extended to them.

As Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on Decentralization and Local Governance, Vice president Jalloh brought together key local government stakeholders at a time when councils are grappling with operational challenges linked to the current political impasse.

The discussions centered on the ongoing political impasse in the country, with particular attention to its impact on the effective functioning of Local Councils. The APC local leaders used the opportunity to highlight concerns affecting governance at the grassroots level amid the stalemate.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice President underscored the shared interest in resolving the stalemate. “We discussed our mutual desire for a swift resolution to the current political impasse,” he stated, emphasizing the need to ensure that councils continue to function effectively. “We want to ensure the councils are able to function and provide services,” he added.

During the meeting, the leaders also acknowledged the presence of International Moral Guarantors currently in the country, expressing optimism that the concerns raised by the APC would be constructively addressed through sustained dialogue.

The engagement is seen as part of ongoing efforts to ease political tensions and foster consensus among key stakeholders in Sierra Leone’s governance landscape.
