The United States’ Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan David Hunt, had his second visit to Kenema with key meetings aimed at fostering national unity and electoral reforms.
On his first stop, Ambassador Hunt met with the Deputy Mayor and leaders from the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the All People’s Congress (APC). He highlighted the continued importance of implementing the Agreement for National Unity and the recommendations from the Tripartite Committee concerning electoral reforms.
The Ambassador reiterated the United States’ support for initiatives that promote democracy, stability, and cooperation, benefiting both Sierra Leone and its international partners.
Ambassador Hunt’s day continued with two significant site visits that showcased local youth entrepreneurship. At Samuel’s Bakery, he learned about local youth entrepreneur, Samuel Swaray’s endeavors in bread production and sales, which serves the Kenema District.
The Ambassador then visited the Youth Partnership for Aquaculture Development’s fish farm, where the Project Coordinator, Benjamin Bockarie explained how aquaculture can provide sustainable income for young people in the region. Reportedly, the group had received an Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund grant in 2022 to construct fishponds, which were now used for training sessions.
Report provided that both visits of the Ambassador, Bryan Hunt, emphasized the crucial role young people play in developing local economies through entrepreneurship.
Ambassador Hunt expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received from the Provincial Secretary and Paramount Chief Mohamed Kapuwa Matoe IV of Nongowa Chiefdom. Reportedly, they engaged in productive discussions on collaborating to ensure the safety, strength, and prosperity of Sierra Leone and the United States.
