45yrs old Umaru Bangura a business man made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown on five Count charges to wit ranging from Fraudulent conversion contrary to section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916
According to the particulars of offence on count one the accused person Umaru Bangura between the year 2013 and January 2022 at Kaningo Lumley the western area in Freetown fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit certain property that is to say One hundred million Leones (100,000,000) for three and the half town plots of Land lying and situated at Kaningo Lumley Freetown entrusted to him by Mohamed Kamara for the purpose of safekeeping.
On count two the accused person between December 2019 and January 2022 at the same place fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit certain property that is to say one Mercedes Benz sprinter value seventy eight million five hundred and fifty thousand Leones (78,550,000), one Volkswagen vehicle value seventy eight million five hundred and fifty thousand Leones(78,550,000) one Peugeot vehicle value fifteen million Leones(15,000,000) one Altima Nissan vehicle value twenty nine million Leones(29,000,000) all to the total sum of two hundred and one million, one hundred thousand Leones(201,100,000) entrusted to him by the same complainant.
One count three on the same date at the same place the accused person Fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit certain property that is to say one sound system, Panasonic sound system, Kenwood sound system, one water machine, four plasma television, one freezer and other assorted items all to the total sum of three hundred and one million, nine hundred and twenty five thousand Leones (301,925,000) entrusted to him by the said complainant for the purpose of business
On count four at same place and date the accused person Fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit certain property that is to say Assorted Clothing Apparels, Packet of pampas, thirty boxes of biscuits, one hundred and fifty boxes of cornflakes, four jerry cans of oil, and assorted drinks all to the total sum of seventy Million six hundred and twenty million Leones(70,620,000) entrusted to him by the said complainant for the purpose of sale and on count five at the same place and date the accused person fraudulently converted properties that is to say the sum of eighty one million Leones(81,000,000) entrusted to him by the said complainant Mohamed Kamara for the purpose of business
The charges were read and explained to the accused person, no plea was taken. Counsel representing the accused person Elvis Kargbo applied for the accused to be put on bail.
According to A-Z Newspaper, Counsel said he is a Sierra Leonean resident within this jurisdiction he made this application pursuant to section 79 2 of the Criminal procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
However, Magistrate Kekura in giving his ruling said Counsel didn’t indicate to the court that the accused person has reliable sureties who are willing and ready to enter into recognizance on his behalf, the bench is in doubt to whom will be his surety and in view of the seriousness of the allegation levied against the accused person he refused bail and sent the accused person to the male correctional center in Freetown.
