John Borbor Jimmy made his second appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on one count charge of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the indictment, the defendant, Jimmy, on Wednesday 25th March 2026 at the New York Pizza car park along Aberdeen Beach Road, Freetown, allegedly stole one Dell laptop computer and its charger valued at thirteen thousand Leones (Le13,000), two smartphone chargers and their sockets valued at two thousand five hundred Leones (Le2,500), and one Cherokee Jeep key valued at two thousand Leones (Le2,000), property of Prince Oscar.
In a bid to proceed with the matter, the prosecution led its first witness (PW1), Prince Oscar, a businessman dealing in cars. He testified that he recognized the defendant and recalled that on 25th March 2026, between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., he drove into the car park at Aberdeen Beach where he met the defendant and two others who approached him and directed him where to park his vehicle.
The witness said the defendant signaled him to a parking spot and later came close to him after he stepped out of the vehicle. According to PW1, the defendant suggested that they wash his car, to which he agreed. He then left them and went inside New York Pizza, where he spent about 45 minutes.
PW1 further stated that upon his return, he met the defendant and three other men sitting on a bench waiting for him. He said the defendant moved close to him, but he instructed him to step back. It was then that he discovered that the back door glass of his vehicle was down and his backpack containing the missing items, company payment receipts, T-shirts, body spray, and roll-on had been stolen.
He said he questioned the defendant as to why the car had not been washed and immediately alerted officers at the OSD office, who arrested the defendant and the three others. They were later taken to the Golf Police Post at Aberdeen, where he made a statement.
However, Magistrate John Manso Fornah adjourned the matter for cross-examination by the defendant and ordered his remand at the Male Correctional Centre. The matter was adjourned to 26th May 2026 for further hearing.
