The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, has paid a courtesy visit to President Julius Maada Bio at State House as Sierra Leone intensifies preparations to host the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit.

The meeting formed part of a series of high-level engagements ahead of the regional gathering, which is expected to bring together Heads of State and Government from across the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

During their discussions, President Bio and Dr. Touray reviewed preparations for the summit, with a focus on ensuring a successful event that will provide a platform for regional leaders to deliberate on key challenges and opportunities facing West Africa.

The summit, scheduled to take place in Lungi, is expected to address critical issues including regional peace and security, economic integration, democratic governance, trade cooperation, and sustainable development.

Dr. Touray’s visit underscores Sierra Leone’s important role within the regional bloc and reflects the country’s growing commitment to advancing cooperation among ECOWAS member states. Hosting the summit marks a significant diplomatic milestone, as Sierra Leone prepares to welcome regional leaders, policymakers, and senior officials for discussions aimed at strengthening unity and collective action across West Africa.

The meeting also reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to supporting regional initiatives that promote peace, stability, and economic growth. As final preparations continue, attention is increasingly turning to the outcomes of the summit and the commitments regional leaders are expected to make toward building a more integrated and resilient West Africa.
