The Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL) has announced a strategic partnership with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to enhance community-centered policing across the country.

A CCSL delegation, led by Programme Manager Rev. Moses Khanu, met with Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu at the Police Headquarters on George Street to discuss the collaboration.

Rev. Khanu highlighted CCSL’s advocacy work in all sixteen districts, focusing on gender issues, psychosocial counselling, and challenges related to female genital mutilation, drug abuse, and sexual and gender-based violence. He commended the SLP’s shift from a force-driven to a service-oriented approach, aligning with CCSL’s vision for stronger community engagement.

In response, IGP Sellu welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the SLP’s commitment to building public trust through community policing. He assigned the Director of Gender and Community Relations to lead joint outreach programmes, particularly in schools, and encouraged CCSL to collaborate with the Transnational Organized Crime Unit on drug-related cases.

He also proposed that CCSL develop training programmes for police personnel, recognizing the need for counselling support within the force.
