Mohamed Sesay has been officially installed as the new Regent Chief of Kholifa Mamunta-Mayossoh Chiefdom in a ceremony held in Mamunta town.
The installation ceremony was presided over by Prince Alex Sorie Bah, North-East Regional Provincial Secretary, and marked a significant milestone in the chiefdom’s history.
In his statement, Prince Bah explained that Sesay was appointed by the Local Government Ministry to serve as caretaker chief, replacing Delvin Sankoh, who was accused of administrative malpractices.
“The government has appointed Mohamed Sesay as the new Regent Chief of Kholifa Mamunta-Mayossoh Chiefdom, and he will oversee the chiefdom until elections are held to elect a Paramount Chief,” Prince Bah said.
Prince Bah urged the community to accord Sesay the highest respect as he administers the day-to-day affairs of Kholifa Mamunta Mayossoh. “We call on the community to support Chief Sesay and work with him to ensure peace and stability in the chiefdom,” he added.
The ceremony drew a diverse crowd, including youths, women, traditional and ceremonial chiefs, and officials from the Local Government Ministry. PC Dr Masakma Madibie II, Chairman of the National Council of Paramount Chiefs, was also in attendance and encouraged residents to work with the new chief for sustainable development.
“We urge the residents of Mamunta Mayossoh to work together with Chief Sesay to promote peace, stability, and development in the chiefdom,” PC Dr Madibie said. “The new chief has a critical role to play in ensuring the well-being of the community, and we are confident that he will discharge his duties effectively.”
In his statement, Chief Sesay emphasised peace, cohesion, and unity.
“As the new Regent Chief of Kholifa Mamunta-Mayossoh Chiefdom, I pledge to work tirelessly to promote peace, stability, and development in the chiefdom,” he said. “I call on all residents to support me in this endeavour and work together to build a brighter future for our community.”
The symbolic handing over of the staff of authority climaxed the ceremony, marking the official transfer of responsibility to the new Regent Chief. With the installation of Chief Sesay, the Kholifa Mamunta-Mayossoh Chiefdom looks forward to a new era of peace, stability, and development.
