The Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI) announced plans for a peaceful public protest on Monday, March 25th, 2024. The protest, scheduled from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, will take place in front of the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education building in New England Ville, Freetown.

Fueling the protest are concerns surrounding recent events at the University of Sierra Leone (USL). CHRDI vehemently criticizes the Ministry’s dissolution of the University Court, questioning its legal legitimacy.

CHRDI warns this action sets a dangerous precedent, potentially undermining the rule of law, eroding trust in authority figures, and jeopardizing the legal system’s integrity.

The organization emphasizes the importance of established institutional structures and due process. Dissolving the University Court without legal justification raises serious concerns about governance, accountability, and academic freedoms within the university.

Deeply troubled by these developments, CHRDI is calling for a peaceful demonstration to express solidarity and demand justice for the University of Sierra Leone. Participants are urged to maintain a lawful and peaceful demeanor throughout the protest, as CHRDI highlights the importance of peaceful advocacy in addressing grievances.
