Road users and residents along the Bo-Pujehun Highway have expressed growing concerns over the deteriorating state of road signs and safety measures along the route. Citizens are calling the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, highlighting the alarming situation, citing the rampant theft and damage to crucial road safety infrastructure.

The citizen noted that many of the flashers erected for nighttime visibility have either collapsed or been stolen by unknown individuals. These flashers, essential for guiding drivers and pedestrians during low visibility conditions, were initially installed following the completion of the road construction by CHICO.

According to the concerned citizens, the initial installation included various road safety measures such as speed checking bumps, kilometer speed notification boards, junction entry and exit signs, and stop notices. However, due to the lack of maintenance and security measures, most of these vital signs have either fallen or been stolen, posing a significant threat to road users’ safety.

The letter urges the road safety authorities to take immediate action in re-erecting the fallen signs and securing them properly to prevent further theft and damage. Failure to address the issue promptly, the citizen warns, could lead to an increase in road accidents and jeopardize the safety of both lives and property.

The plea emphasizes the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring road safety and calls on relevant public bodies to prioritize the maintenance and upkeep of road infrastructure for the well-being of all citizens.

As citizens await a response from the authorities, concerns continue to mount regarding the state of road safety along the Bo-Pujehun Highway, underscoring the need for urgent action to address the pressing issues raised by concerned residents.
