The Congo Cross Police Division has intensified its crackdown on the sale and use of illicit drugs in the Western Urban District, seizing more than 800 wraps of suspected Kush in a series of coordinated raids across Freetown.
The operation, conducted between 8:40 a.m. and 3:10 p.m., was led by the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Congo Cross Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sahr Nyuma, and coordinated by the Operations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Amadu Babah Kanu. It was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug distribution networks and curb rising addiction rates among youth in the city.

At about 9:00 a.m., police officers aboard vehicle SLP 147 raided the Murray Town Market, arresting one Idrissa Kamara with 124 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Kush. The team later moved to the Kolo Stick Manfengbeh Community, where two makeshift structures believed to be used for the sale of Kush and other harmful substances were demolished.
In a subsequent operation around 3:10 p.m., police executed a search warrant at No. 8 Rassmusson Street, behind the Siaka Stevens Stadium. During the search, suspects Alfred Kanu and Mariama Bangura were found in possession of 707 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Kush, along with additional loose quantities concealed in a black plastic bag.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation, while the seized substances have been secured as evidence.

Authorities say the successful operation demonstrates the Sierra Leone Police’s renewed commitment to tackling the proliferation of illicit drugs and restoring public safety across the capital.
