A convicted prisoner who escaped from the Pademba Road prison on Sunday, November 26th, has shared his experience of the breakout.

In an interview conducted uphill hours after his escape, the fugitive, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the escape was facilitated by Sierra Leone soldiers.

“The officers were the ones that break open our doors using their guns and escorted us out of our cells,” the fugitive said. “No prisoner was left behind.”

Speaking in the Krio language, the fugitive expressed his disbelief at his newfound freedom.

“I couldn’t believe that I had actually gotten my freedom until I was being interviewed that I realized that I was indeed out of Pademba Prison.”

The fugitive explained that he was arrested and convicted for a minor offense.

“I was arrested for sitting with people that were smoking,” he said. “I was tried and charged to two (2) years imprisonment, and I had already served one year of my sentence before we were broken out by the soldiers.”

Despite the circumstances of his escape, the fugitive expressed his happiness at being free.

“I am very happy to be out of prison,” he said. “I do not wish to go back.”

Authorities Investigate Prison Break

The Sierra Leone authorities are currently investigating the prison break and have launched a manhunt for the escaped prisoners.

The Pademba Road prison has a long history of escapes, and the latest incident has raised concerns about the security of the facility.

Calls for Reform

Human rights activists have called for reforms at the Pademba Road prison, including improvements to security measures and living conditions for inmates.

The government has said that it is committed to addressing the issues at the prison and ensuring that future escapes do not occur.
