National cyclist Fatima Deborah Conteh has written a formal letter alleging sexual harassment against Mr. Abdul Karim Kamara, the founder of the Lunsar Cycle Club.

The letter, addressed to the National President of the Sierra Leone Cyclist Organization, Mr. Swallay, has brought to light a distressing situation within the cycling community.

In her letter, Conteh detailed the harassment she endured, citing that as a female cyclist and former member of the Lunsar Cycling Club, she faced persistent advances from Mr. Kamara. Conteh, who is a highly accomplished female cyclist in Sierra Leone, stated that despite her numerous awards and international participation in cycling competitions, she had not received the recognition and support she deserved due to Mr. Kamara’s inappropriate demands.

The allegations include Mr. Kamara sending sexually suggestive messages and repeatedly inviting her to meet in various hotels in Freetown. According to Conteh, these actions were taken because she had refused to comply with his inappropriate requests. She expressed her frustration at the lack of support from Sierra Leone National Cycling Association’s President, Mr. Mohamed C.D. Kamara, and the Secretary-General, Mr. Sinneh Mansaray, who seemed indifferent to her complaints. Furthermore, she claimed that Mr. Mansaray even threatened to ban her from participating in all cycling competitions in Sierra Leone if she pursued the matter further.

In her letter, Conteh conveyed her determination to expose the harassment, stating that she had collected several pieces of evidence to support her claims. She also emphasized the need to protect other female cyclists from facing similar situations in the future.

In response to these allegations, Conteh has requested the NOC Ethics Committee, as well as other sports stakeholders from the Ministry and National Sports Authority, to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate actions against Mr. Kamara to put an end to the harassment she has endured.

This alarming revelation highlights the urgent need for addressing harassment issues within the sports community and ensuring the safety and well-being of all athletes. The Ministry of Sports, National Sports Authority, National Olympic Committee, and other sports stakeholders have been copied on Conteh’s letter to ensure awareness and prompt action on this concerning matter.
