On Tuesday, October 12, Deputy Mayor of Port Loko City, Aminata Bangura, led a compassionate visit to the Port Loko Correctional Center. The visit was marked by a generous donation of essential items aimed at improving the lives of inmates.
The donated items included wrappers, sanitary pads, soap, toothpaste, gari, and sugar. These supplies were carefully selected to meet the diverse needs of both female and male inmates, prioritizing personal hygiene and comfort.
During her visit, Deputy Mayor Bangura emphasized the importance of extending care to all members of the community, regardless of their circumstances. She highlighted the city’s commitment to supporting and valuing every individual, including those within correctional facilities.
Accompanied by councilors Kadiatu Musuba, Yansaneh, and Hadiatu, the deputy mayor toured the facility, engaging with both inmates and staff. The donation was warmly received, with correctional center officials expressing gratitude for the city’s thoughtful support. They noted that such outreach programs play a crucial role in boosting morale and promoting rehabilitation efforts.
The city intends to continue supporting correctional centers and explore additional ways to enhance the welfare and reintegration of inmates. Deputy Mayor Bangura encouraged inmates to draw inspiration from the life of Nelson Mandela, a renowned figure who overcame adversity and emerged as a leader.
