During a recent interview on AYV’s “Wake Up Salone,” Dr. Peter Mac-Jajua, Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association, highlighted the substantial challenges medical professionals are facing due to a severe lack of essential resources.

He expressed deep concern over how these limitations are hindering healthcare delivery and affecting the well-being of both medical staff and patients.

Dr. Mac-Jajua highlighted the detrimental impact of distractions such as fuel supply shortages, which force healthcare workers to divert their attention away from patient care.

Just imagine you have to take care of a patient, and you are thinking about fuel that is not good for even your mental health,” he remarked, emphasizing the urgent need for solutions to these pressing issues.

The challenges facing medical professionals extend beyond fuel supply; they encompass a broader spectrum of resource inadequacies, including medical supplies, equipment, and adequate infrastructure. Dr. Mac-Jajua called on government authorities to prioritize these matters, stating that immediate action is necessary to ensure that healthcare providers can perform their duties effectively without the added stress of logistical uncertainties.

As healthcare professionals strive to provide quality care amid these challenges, the need for systemic changes and increased support from the government has never been more critical.
