The Drive Safe Alliance and the Road Safety Committee South have undertaken a significant project to repaint zebra crossing points on major roads in Bo City.
The initiative aims to make these critical markings more visible to both Pedestrians and Drivers, ensuring safer road use across the City.
The exercise was conducted both during the day and at night to ensure timely completion and avoid disruption to daily Traffic. The essence of Zebra Crossings lies in their ability to provide designated safe spots for pedestrians to cross busy roads, thereby reducing accidents and improving overall road safety.
The project is sponsored by the Drive Safe Alliance and executed by a coalition of institutions forming the Road Safety Committee. This diverse group includes the Sierra Leone Road Safety Corps, the Sierra Leone Police, the Office of National Security (ONS) in Bo District represented by Swahibu Koroma, Civil Society Organizations represented by Mustapha Kpaka Jr, and members of the Fourth Estate, among others.
Each of these institutions played a vital role in the success of the project. The Sierra Leone Police and Road Safety Corps ensured Traffic Management during the repainting exercise, while the ONS and Civil Society Organizations coordinated community engagement and awareness campaigns. Media representatives provided extensive coverage to inform the public about the importance of the initiative.
Speaking on the project, representatives emphasized that Zebra Crossings are a critical component of urban planning. They serve as a visual reminder for Drivers to slow down and give right-of-way to pedestrians, thus fostering a culture of Road Safety.
This collaborative initiative underscores the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement in addressing community challenges and highlights the commitment of the Drive Safe Alliance and the Road Safety Committee South to making Bo City safer for all road users.
