Former ECOWAS Parliament Speaker Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis has pledged NLe 300,000 and 200 bags of cement for the construction of the University of Makeni (UniMak) Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Office and a Students’ Resource Centre.
The announcement was made during a fundraising launch and groundbreaking ceremony on October 26, 2024, hosted by SRC Chief Minister Abdul Aziz Kamara and Minister of Health Teneba Marah.
Isatu Sow, the SRC Minister of Works, expressed her excitement about the project, which fulfills a key promise of President Alim B. Fornah’s “SRC We Want” manifesto.
The resource centre will provide a space for students to advocate on important issues and conduct academic work, while also enabling future SRC administrations to generate revenue for projects.
Shebora Samba Kamara, Vice President of the UniMak Alumni Association, praised the current SRC leadership for this initiative, reflecting on past challenges in revenue generation. President Fornah is committed to completing the project before his term ends.
In his remarks at the ceremony, held at the Fatima Campus Auditorium, Hon. Tunis emphasized that true support for youth involves actionable contributions, describing the planned facility as a space for nurturing future leaders and fostering innovative ideas.
