Popular activist Edmond Abu has congratulated the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) for its decision to grant a six-month extension to the tenure of the All People’s Congress (APC) executives to enable the party conduct its lower-level elections.

In a public statement, Abu specifically commended the Executive Secretary of the Political Parties Regulation Commission for what he described as a ruling in favour of internal democratic processes within the APC. He also congratulated Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha on his recent appointment as Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

However, the activist used the opportunity to renew his appeal to President Julius Maada Bio for the release of the APC National Secretary General, Mr. Lansana Dumbuya.

Abu argued that Lawyer Dumbuya’s statement does not constitute a security threat and should not warrant continued legal proceedings. He referenced previous instances where the President had exercised clemency, including in the case of Paolo Conteh, who was accused of serious security-related offenses.

He therefore called on the President to direct the Attorney General, Alpha Sesay, to invoke Section 66(4)(c) of the 1991 Constitution to enter a nolle prosequi and discontinue the matter against Dumbuya by Monday, 16 February 2026.

In the same statement, Abu also criticised the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCA), alleging regulatory inconsistency in the enforcement of fines. He questioned the swift collection of a Le 3 billion fine from the APC while, according to him, telecommunications companies such as Orange Sierra Leone and Africell Sierra Leone had not paid fines reportedly amounting to $4.2 million.

Abu further accused the regulator of failing to adequately address what he described as persistent poor network service and unfair treatment of consumers. He urged the authorities to act decisively in the interest of the public.

The statement adds to growing public discourse surrounding political party regulation, telecommunications oversight, and the ongoing legal proceedings involving the APC Secretary General.
