Sheku Kallon, an employee at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), is under investigation by the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Sierra Leone Police in Bo for allegedly abusing his eight-year-old son.
The incident reportedly took place after Sheku found out that his son had visited his mother, Aminata Kallon, without his permission. This incident comes amidst a difficult relationship between Sheku and Aminata, who have been married for four years. According to Aminata, she had faced continuous domestic violence from Sheku, mainly because of his suspicions of infidelity.
Aminata explained to reporters that after the abuse, she made the decision to leave the family home for her safety. She now lives at 1 Moriba Street, Njagboima, while Sheku resides at 60 Baimba Road, New Site Section, Bo. The situation escalated when Sheku found out that their son had visited his mother without his approval, leading to the alleged abuse.
On February 11, 2025, Aminata reported the incident to the police, which led to an investigation. Sheku was arrested and detained, but was later released on bail after three days to allow for his son’s medical treatment. However, Sheku was rearrested soon after, under the orders of the Regional Police Commander South. He remains in police custody for further questioning.
Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohamed Kanneh, the Regional FSU Coordinator South, confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing. A progress report will be sent to the State Counsel for legal advice. The case has drawn attention from child protection agencies, civil society activists calling for justice.
Martha Idriss Feika, Director at the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs in Bo, expressed her concerns about the case. She stressed the importance of protecting children and taking action in cases of domestic violence.
The investigation continues, with the community and authorities closely watching as the case moves forward.
