A 42-year-old electrician, Bayoh Kargbo, has been remanded in custody following charges of theft at Marampa Mining Limited in Lunsar, North West Region.
Kargbo appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on charges of larceny by servant, contrary to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to court records, Kargbo allegedly stole electrical cables of various sizes valued at 526,146 Leones. The incident reportedly occurred on October 26, 2024, while he was employed as an electrician by Marampa Mining Limited. The cables were said to be the property of the mining company.
During the hearing, Assistant Superintendent of Police Isatu Baba Musa, prosecuting, requested a short adjournment to allow further preparation and coordination with witnesses. Defense counsel Chernoh Kamara applied for bail on Kargbo’s behalf, citing that the accused is a Sierra Leonean resident with reliable sureties who were willing to vouch for his compliance with bail conditions.
Kamara argued that Kargbo posed no flight risk and would not interfere with prosecution witnesses or the investigation. The defense’s bail application was made under Section 79(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.
However, Magistrate Bangura denied the bail application due to the severity of the offense and the potential impact on the ongoing investigation. Kargbo was subsequently remanded at the male correctional facility in Freetown.
The case has been adjourned to December 11, 2024, for further proceedings. The court is expected to hear evidence from prosecution witnesses and determine the next steps in the matter.
