The U.S. Embassy in Freetown has on Wednesday, 24th December, 2025, announced that it will be closed for official business from December 24 to December 26, 2025, in observance of the holiday season.
In a statement released by the Embassy, it was confirmed that normal operations will resume on Monday, January 29, 2025.
The Embassy extended warm wishes to everyone, saying, “Merry Christmas to everyone, and warm wishes for the holiday season.”
The announcement follows the Embassy’s usual holiday closure period, giving staff time off to celebrate Christmas and the surrounding festivities. The Embassy’s closure impacts all its official services during this period, with citizens advised to plan accordingly.
The notice was issued to ensure that both U.S. citizens and others who may need to interact with the Embassy during this time are aware of the disruption. This update was shared through official U.S. Embassy channels, including social media, with the message clearly communicated alongside both the U.S. and Sierra Leone flags.
As we approach the New Year, U.S. nationals and others are reminded to stay informed on the reopening dates and to consider any urgent matters before the Embassy resumes its operations at the end of January.
