Khalil Baba Jabbie, a staff at the Ministry of Internal Affairs made his first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown on Two count charges to wit Conspiracy to defraud, contrary to law and obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of oflence on Saturday 28th September 2024 at Siaka Steven Street, Western Area of Freetown, with intent to defraud conspired together with other persons unknown and defrauded Lawrence Julius Peters the sum of Ninety Seven Thousand six hundred Leones(97,600) with the pretext that he will provide him two Sierra Leonean Service Passport books for Myra Marah and David Sam Yobondo knowing same to be false.

Count two states that on the same date and place, the accused person with intent to defraud obtained the sum of ninety seven thousand six hundred Leones(97,600) from Lawrence Julius Peters by falsely pretending that he will provide him two Sierra Leonean Service passport books for Myra Marah and David Sam Yobondo knowing same to be false.

When the charges were read and explained to the accused person, no plea was taken.

The Prosecutor Inspector Kadie M Taylor told the bench that his witness was present in court, but she didn’t have a proper conference with him.

Counsel representing the accused person applied for bail, stating that he is a Sierra Leonean resident within the jurisdiction and he is a Civil Servant working at the Immigration Department, and he will not interfere with prosecutions or witnesses, nor will he jump bail. He made his application pursuant to Section 79 2 of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.

Meanwhile Magistrate Sahr Kekura granted bail to the accused person in the sum of two hundred thousand Leones with two sureties in like sum, one surety must be gainfully employed from a government institution, sureties to produce valid identity card depicting his or her address in Freetown bail to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar. Matter adjourned to May 2025.
