Yusif Abdulai Kamara, a farmer, has been denied bail for allegedly defrauding a US citizen over Le400 million that was given to him for securing land.
The accused farmer has been remanded in custody even when his counsel fight in vain to secure a bail for him.
His Counsel told the Bench that they are ready to pay the complainant her money, noting that they already paid Le30 million to the police at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The accused, Kamara, on Wednesday 5th of July 2023, appeared before Magistrate Marke Ngegba at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on a count of fraudulent conversion.
Police alleged that the accused person, Kamara, on a date unknown between 1st and 31st of March 2021, in Freetown, fraudulently converted to his use and benefit certain property that is to say the sum of USD 21,200 equivalent to Le424, 400 entrusted to him by Chavonna Frazier to purchase a parcel of land in Freetown for an organization called Sierra Leone Ancestor Investors Association based in California United States of America.
The accused person did not take a plea. No witness testified in Wednesday’s court sitting.
Koroma added that the money will be brought to the court on the next adjourned date.
The complainant responded by saying that “All we need is the money.”
Magistrate Ngegba remanded the accused and he adjourned the matter to the 13th of July 2023 for further hearing. Police Corporal 12090 Zainab Y Bangura is prosecuting the matter.
