Police at the Gelehun Checkpoint, along Pujehun Liberia border apprehended a farmer from Jama Village, Malen Chiefdom, in possession of a bundle of Dried Leaves suspected to be Cannabis-Sativa.

The suspect, who resides with his family in Jama Village, disclosed during preliminary questioning that he had traveled to Yonni Bana Village along the Freetown Highway in October to assist friends in processing Cannabis-Sativa.

Daramy admitted that the seized consignment was payment for his work and that he was on route to sell the product as part of his arrangement with the farm owner.

Baimba Daramy is currently in Police Custody assisting with further Investigation at the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), housed at the Regional Police Headquarters South in Bo City.

Speaking on the arrest, AIG Brima Kanneh lauded the vigilance and professionalism of the officers manning the Gelehun Checkpoint. “This operation demonstrates our officers’ dedication to combating Drug Trafficking, which poses a significant threat to the Peace and Stability of our Communities. Checkpoints within the Southern Region remain pivotal in intercepting Illicit activities and ensuring public safety,” he stated.

The Southern Region Police continue to emphasize the importance of strategic Checkpoints in disrupting Transnational Organized Crime.

Officers have been trained to identify suspicious activities and act decisively, reinforcing the Region’s position as a bulwark against Drug Trafficking and other Criminal enterprises.

Investigations into the case continue, and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the process.
