The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Dr. Fatima Jabbie Maada Bio, expressed profound gratitude for an event organized by the Presidential Gender Adviser’s Office and the Female Parliamentary Caucus to celebrate her recent election as President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).
The celebration, held at Parliament, served as a landmark occasion highlighting not only her new role but also the strong commitment of the government to women’s empowerment and children’s rights.
In her recent social media post, Dr. Bio emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “I was honoured to attend a celebration event organized by the Presidential Gender Adviser office of the President alongside the female parliamentary caucus, underscoring President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and safeguarding children’s rights.”
The First Lady expressed her heartfelt thanks to the diverse group of women who attended the special occasion, which included Mammy Queens, wives of Paramount Chiefs, police and military spouses, members of the Women’s Forum, the 50/50 group, the Soso Community, and both ruling and opposition party members of Parliament.
“This event demonstrated a commitment to transcending party lines and tribal affiliations in support of gender equality and development,” she noted, underscoring the unity and collaborative spirit on display.
The First Lady also highlighted the crucial role played by her husband, President Julius Maada Bio, in empowering her to take on the leadership role. “I want to say thank you for always supporting me,” she remarked, signifying the personal impact of his support on her journey.
The First Lady extended her gratitude to all ministers, deputy ministers, and staff at the Office of the First Lady, recognizing their efforts in making the celebration possible. “Thank you very much for always being there,” she stated sincerely.
Additionally, Dr. Bio expressed special appreciation for Mrs. Isatu Jabbie Kabba, the Presidential Adviser on Gender, whom she described as “like a mother.” “I deeply appreciate her for celebrating me as a daughter,” she added affectionately.
In closing, Dr. Maada Bio acknowledged the presence of the He4She Men and all those who contributed to the event’s success. “With unity and collaboration, we will create an environment where everyone can achieve their full potential,” she said, highlighting her vision for a future grounded in support and empowerment.
