The Ministry of Finance has expressed strong support for the Public Service Commission’s (PSC) draft Public Service Policy during the 2025 Budget hearings
During the 2025 Budget policy hearings, Dr. Ilara Mahdi, Deputy Director of Budget at the Ministry of Finance, expressed support for the draft Public Service Policy developed by the Public Service Commission (PSC).
She emphasized the need for a central body to manage HR issues within the Public Service and looked forward to the policy’s finalization.
Mr. Mohamed Jusu, Secretary to the PSC, highlighted the Commission’s constitutional mandate under the 1991 Constitution, which empowers it to oversee recruitment, promotions, confirmations, and disciplinary actions in the Public Service.
He also detailed the PSC’s achievements in 2023 and 2024, including the appointment of officers, confirmations, promotions, and the refurbishment of the PSC headquarters.
The Commission also made significant strides in decentralizing its operations, holding consultative engagements across several cities. For 2025, the PSC plans to recruit 250 new officers, confirm 150 Civil Servants, enact the first-ever Public Service Bill, and continue its decentralization efforts.
The Ministry of Finance and non-state actors unanimously approved the PSC’s budget, reflecting confidence in its ongoing efforts to improve HR management within the Public Service.
