In the afternoon hours of Wednesday, 9th April 2025, a devastating fire destroyed a five-room apartment located at 11 Bayo Street, opposite KDEC Field in Kamakwie.
Mr. Davidson Hassan Bangura, the breadwinner of the home that was reportedly burnt down, confirmed with Sierraloaded that the fire incident was likely caused by the naked wires of their solar panel, which he said was previously wrapped with a plastic in order to prevent them from sparking and causing fire outbreak.
Mr. Bangura asserted that the incident arose when all the men had left the home, explaining that he was at the market when the shocking waves (news) of his house being on fire, met him. “Upon arriving at my house, I met the fire profusely blazing on my apartment. I became weak and hopeless, as there was nothing to do at that point,” he expressed, sadly.
Davidson affirmed that a huge amount of money was burnt into ashes, together with a motorbike, a computer laptop, a bundle of zinc, bags of gari, their clothes and many other things. “My brother who is an appendix patient, was supposed to undergo his operation on the following day, but the money which has been kept aside for the operation, turns to ashes in the fire,” Davidson lamented, heartedly.
He commended the local residents who swiftly responded to the incident and quenched the blazing fire, preventing it from escalating to an uncontrollable situation. He said, “fire force didn’t show up, it was only today we saw a who identified himself as an official from the Disaster Management Response. He asked me questions relating to the incident and I provided all I could.”
Mr. Bangura called out on the government, humanitarians, and organizations to consider their current situation by supporting them in any way they could. “We have lost everything. The cloths I’m even wearing now is one of my neighbor’s. Even my two elderly children are not with me currently, someone has lodged them in her home tentatively. I and my wife with our younger child are also living with one of our good neighbors for the time being,” he explained.
He emphasized on the academic concerns of his three children, who he said have lost all their school materials including uniforms, books, bags, and shoes in the fire, stating that as a family, they don’t even have a penny to survive on.
My deepest sympathy to the entire family 😭😭
