On the morning of Sunday, 2nd March, 2025, a fire broke out at the Pati Bell Community Junior and Senior Secondary School, located between Kamasikie Village and Kaluyulan Village in Saffroko Limba Chiefdom in Bombali District.

The incident, which left the whole community in a disarray due to the gushing fire on the school building of hundreds of students, sparked concern among community members and prompted rapid responses from local authorities.

The school, built by ChildFund in 2009, aimed to alleviate the burden on children, especially girls, who traveled long distances to attend school in Binkolo Town. It served as the only secondary school in Kamasikie Village, making it a vital resource for the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that a passing truck driver noticed flames rising from the upper floor of the school. Acting quickly, they said he parked his truck and shouted to alert students and residents of the fire. His called loudly and rapidly, “The Pati Bell Community Junior and Senior Secondary School is on serious fire!” drew immediate attention from the neighborhood.

As smoke billowed and flames engulfed the building, according to reports, a crowd began to form at the scene. Although the fire’s exact cause is still under investigation, it is believed to have started in a classroom on the upper floor.

Reportedly, local firefighters and community volunteers promptly engaged in efforts to extinguish the fire. Despite their quick response, the intense heat and rapid spread of flames complicated their efforts. Firefighting units from surrounding areas were called for assistance, but the structure of the school was already significantly damaged by the time they arrived.

Fortunately, reports revealed that all students and staff were evacuated safely with no injuries or casualties reported.
