Assistant Inspector General of Police Sylvester M. N. Koroma, Regional Police Commander for Freetown West, has launched a 2026 lecture series with a maiden address to officers on parade at the Central Police Divisional Headquarters.
The programme, which is scheduled to visit six police divisions across the region, aims to strengthen operational capacity, reinforce core policing values, and restore public confidence in the Sierra Leone Police.
Delivering the lecture on behalf of the Inspector General of Police and the Executive Management Board, AIG Koroma commended officers for their performance in 2025 and urged them to sustain their dedication and professionalism. He described the lecture series as part of ongoing efforts to raise standards of conduct and service delivery across the Freetown West region.
He emphasised the importance of continuous self-assessment, discipline, and integrity as essential pillars of effective policing. Officers were reminded that professionalism must guide every interaction with the public and that maintaining high ethical standards is critical to building and sustaining community trust.
AIG Koroma warned against the use of mobile phones and social media while on duty, describing such behaviour as indiscipline that undermines operational effectiveness. He instructed personnel to strictly adhere to the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ checklist on lawlessness and indiscipline, with particular emphasis on operational teams.
Patrol officers were urged to sharpen their situational awareness by making effective use of their senses and intuition, while maintaining courtesy and professionalism at checkpoints. To promote uniformity and operational readiness, AIG Koroma announced that newly supplied camouflage uniforms will be worn on Mondays and Fridays, with other approved uniforms designated for the remaining working days.
Local Unit Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police John Fayia Tumbay, praised the lecture, describing it as timely and impactful in reinforcing discipline, professionalism, and operational efficiency within the division.
The lecture series will continue across the remaining police divisions in Freetown West, forming part of a broader regional initiative aimed at enhancing training, accountability, and public-facing service delivery within the Sierra Leone Police.
