The Girls Empowerment Network Sierra Leone (GENSL) recently held a meeting with His Worship Mayor Komba Mathew Sam of the Koidu New Sembehun City Council to discuss preparations for the second edition of the Ignite Girls Empowerment Summit 2026 in Kono District.

During the engagement, GENSL outlined the goals and expected outcomes of the summit, emphasizing its role in advancing girls’ empowerment and promoting positive community development.

Mayor Sam welcomed the initiative and expressed his commitment to supporting the summit, commending GENSL’s efforts to inspire young girls and foster leadership at the grassroots level.

The first Ignite Girls Empowerment Summit, held in 2024, brought together hundreds of young girls from across Sierra Leone for mentorship, leadership training, and empowerment sessions. The 2025 edition built on that momentum by focusing on digital inclusion and entrepreneurship, equipping many girls with the skills and confidence to pursue their goals.

Building on these achievements, the 2026 summit aims to further expand its reach and impact in Kono District.

The meeting also explored potential areas of collaboration between GENSL and the Koidu City Council to ensure the successful hosting of the upcoming event.
