Pademba Road Court No. 1 Magistrate Mark Ngegba on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, remanded Denis Koroma to the Men’s Detention Center for the alleged importation of firearms and prohibited drugs.

The defendant, Denis Koroma, is being tried on four counts
possession, transfer of a firearm
Transfer firearms without a license, importation of prohibited drugs, and unlawful possession of cannabis Sativa against the law

According to the offense, on Monday 13 March 2023 at Queen Elizabeth II Quay Freetown, the accused had one black and silver Taurus Bainbridge pistol with serial number ACK 409049 G3c 19 times19 and 11 cartridges without a license.

Count Two, that on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, and Monday, March 13, 2023, at the same place the defendant moved from Philadelphia, United States of America to Freetown, Sierra Leone, a firearm with the said pistol and ammunition without; the weapon permission, while Count Three and Four affirmed it on the same day and in the same place

Cannabis sativa and prohibited drugs weighing 50.0 grams were found in the possession of the accused.

The first witness for the prosecution (PW1), Police Constable 17015 Ibrahim Barrie, in his evidence recalled the said day when he, Inspector Gibrilla Kamara, and one, of his colleagues gave evidence at the inquest at the alleged container at the wharf.

He said one of the customs officers opened it
in the container and during the application process the customs official found one barrel and saw a pistol with 11 rounds in it
and also found a box containing plastic
with two charcoal rolls, dried leaves are suspected to be Kush.

The witness added that the next day an intelligent police officer was sent to the place of the accused who was called to Ross Police Station where he identified and confessed that the said items belonged to him.

According to the witness, the accused answered during the interrogation that he brought something prohibited into the country

drug because he smoked it in the US, while the gun was for his protection, while charcoal is used to smoke shisha.
Counsel Hindolo M. Gevao Esq. On cross-examination, the witness said he was aware of the gun laws.

He confirmed that the barrel was not cleared by customs until it came into the possession of the police.

After cross-examination, the learned counsel applied for bail for his client but Justice Ngegba refused bail citing the seriousness of the offence. the offense will appear on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
