Former Miss Sierra Leone, Hawa Turay, popularly known as Hawawa, has recounted a harrowing experience she faced while traveling on a boat from Freetown to Lungi.
Turay began by urging boat owners to prioritize the safety of their passengers before embarking on journeys.
She described the incident as traumatic, detailing how the boat she was aboard nearly encountered an accident at sea, causing passengers to cry out in fear, pray fervently, scream, and even vomit.
She said there was not a single person on the most with a life jacket after she initially asked one of the staff for a life jacket and she was told it was finished.
She advised people traveling on a boat to always use life jacket as it’s a simple precaution to save lives in an emergency.
Her comments come in the wake of a tragic incident involving Nigerian actor Junior Pope and three crew members, who lost their lives after their boat capsized in the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State, while en route to a movie location.
Shortly before the boat mishap, Pope, who appeared scared of the river, shared a video of himself offering prayers for a safe journey while heading to the movie location.
