In a recent courtroom appearance at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, fifty-year-old herbalist Alie Conteh faced serious charges of impersonation before Magistrate Sahr Kekura. Conteh is accused of breaching section 3 of Cap 34, as modified by sub-sections 4 and 5 of the Impersonation and Uniform Act 13 of 1975.

The charges follow an incident on July 29, 2024, when Conteh was allegedly seen donning a complete military uniform at the Adonkia Police Checkpoint. Police Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Lahai M reported that Captain Sidie Amadu Sowa, stationed at the checkpoint, detained Conteh for pretending to be a military officer.

Initially held at Lumley Police Station, Conteh was later transferred to the CID headquarters on Pademba Road. During the court proceedings, Sergeant Lahai requested a postponement to submit the military uniform as evidence.

Despite Conteh’s plea for leniency, arguing that the uniform was worn by mistake and promising not to reoffend, Magistrate Kekura denied bail. Conteh was remanded to the Male Correctional Center. The case is scheduled to continue on August 12, 2024, when the presentation of evidence will take place.
