On July 12th, 2024, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd Major General Taluva, visited the Advanced Public Order Training School (APOTS) at Kayinkaysa Police Training School, accompanied by a high-profile entourage of police and military officers. The delegation’s purpose was to assess the infrastructure of the training school and prioritize upgrades to enhance its functionality.

Joining the Minister were:

Police Regional Commander Northwest, Victor Manfred Williams

Director of Training, Mrs. Esther Dukuray, Assistant Commissioner

Madam Tutu Vandi, Engineer, Ministry of Works

During his inspection, Minister Taluva emphasized the urgent need to renovate the existing APOTS Training School and construct additional quarters to accommodate foreign trainers expected to arrive in Sierra Leone soon. The planned renovations and expansion will provide essential infrastructure for the training of specialized security personnel.

The training program at APOTS will focus on enhancing the skills of security personnel assigned as Presidential guards, those attached to the Vice President, and the broader OSD personnel. To this end, the government plans to sign an MoU with countries renowned for their security expertise, such as Nigeria, Egypt, and Rwanda. International security experts will be invited to Sierra Leone to provide comprehensive training to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).

The upgrades to the APOTS Training School will provide a modern and well-equipped training facility, while the collaboration with international experts will enhance the skills and knowledge of security personnel. These initiatives will ultimately contribute to the maintenance of peace, order, and security in Sierra Leone.
