Concerned citizens in Sierra Leone are raising alarms about alleged illegal construction activities obstructing the Deep-Eye bridge water access path along the Waterloo Highway.

Residents are urging the government to intervene immediately in the ongoing project, citing fears for public safety and environmental sustainability.

According to local residents, construction has commenced in the center of the bridge location, directly within the designated path for water access. Citizens allege that retaining walls are being erected and foundations laid within this crucial waterway, which they fear will negatively impact the natural flow of water.

“This is a water passage, and now they are trying to build right in the middle of it,” one concerned citizen stated. “They’ve blocked the channel and are constructing a wall that could cause flooding and long-term damage.”

Residents living near the Deep-Eye water source are calling on the government to take swift action regarding the construction at the Deep-Eye Water Bridge, which they say has already impeded the free passage of water and led to an accumulation of waste, causing pollution in the community.

These concerned citizens are also urging the government to review property ownership in the area and ensure strict compliance with environmental and structural regulations. They argue that such unauthorized developments not only endanger the lives and property of inhabitants but also threaten the ecological balance of the area.
