The Inspector General of Police Mr. William Fayia Sellu, undertook an unannounced visit to the Police Hospital at Kingtom, demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of police personnel.
The visit, which coincided with International Labour Day on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, aimed to assess the medical services provided to police officers and to ensure they receive prompt treatment for ailments incurred during active duty.
During his tour of the hospital’s departments, including Triage, Outpatient, Male & Female wards, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Labour room & Maternity ward, and Theater, Mr. Sellu expressed satisfaction with the performance of the police medical staff. He commended their dedication and noted substantial investments in medical supplies and equipment to enhance service delivery.
Mr. Sellu emphasized that his support extended beyond Freetown to encompass the North, South, and Eastern provinces of Sierra Leone, ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for police personnel nationwide.
In a show of gratitude, the Inspector General acknowledged the contribution of a Spanish medical team who provided pro bono surgical expertise to the police hospital. The team conducted 150 surgeries on police officers, their relatives, and community members, underscoring the importance of international collaboration in healthcare delivery.
Reflecting on his observations, Mr. Sellu expressed a commitment to further improving the hospital’s facilities, pledging to procure additional equipment for the laboratory and other departments. He affirmed his determination to ensure that police personnel receive the best possible medical care, reinforcing their ability to serve “Mama Salone” effectively.
