Six individuals are awaiting judgment after being found guilty in a case involving assault and disorderly behavior at the Young Sports Club (YSC) in Freetown, while one accused has been discharged.

The seven accused Ali Jaffal, Abdul Jaffal, Abdallah Jaffal, Mohamed Jaffal, Abass Antar, Naif Antar, and Hassan Jaffal appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 on charges of wounding, assault, affray, throwing missiles, and disorderly behavior.

The charges stem from an incident on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the YSC facility on Wilkinson Road, during which the accused allegedly wounded Adam Hamdam and Mohamed Aroune.

The charge sheet also claims that the accused engaged in a fight, causing public fear by throwing stones, sticks, and other objects. During the first appearance, the charges were read and explained to the accused, but no plea was taken.

After the prosecution presented its case and the defense submitted a no-case submission, Magistrate Bangura withdrew the file for judgment. In his ruling, the magistrate found the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and seventh accused guilty, while the sixth accused was discharged.

State prosecutor Yusuf Isaac Sesay, in response to the defense’s no-case submission, expressed confusion over the joint submission, as the accused were represented by separate lawyers. He pointed to the confessional statements made by the accused, as well as the testimonies of Prosecution witnesses 1, 2, and 3, which he argued provided enough evidence to support the charges against them.

The accused were represented by Tuma A Jabbie, the President of the Bar Association.

The matter has been adjourned to March 12, 2025, when Magistrate Bangura will deliver the final judgment.
