Authorities have arrested Amadu Sajor Barrie, a junk seller from Tongema village, for possessing a significant amount of military uniforms without authorization.

The arrest took place at the Fallah checkpoint in Bo and was part of a larger security operation aimed at addressing rising safety concerns in the area.

The operation, directed by Regional Police Commander South, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Brima Kanneh, was a response to increased security threats and aimed to bolster vigilance in the region. AIG Kanneh highlighted the necessity of maintaining high alert due to the potential risks associated with unauthorized military gear.

Barrie, who was found with a bale of military fatigues, claimed that he had bought the items from a seller in the PZ area of Freetown, believing it to be a mixed bale of goods. He maintained that he had no knowledge of the military nature of the contents and was unaware of any illicit implications.

Despite Barrie’s assertions, AIG Kanneh expressed doubts about the credibility of the explanation, stressing the importance of thorough investigations into suspicious activities. “Given the nature of the threats we face, the police must remain vigilant and proactive in identifying and addressing potential risks,” Kanneh stated.

The operation was conducted by the Bo West Division, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Jacob Ganda and Chief Superintendent Alphonso Abdulai Fambulleh. Their efforts have been praised for maintaining order and effectively handling the situation.

AIG Kanneh reiterated the commitment of the Sierra Leone Police Southern Region to ensuring public safety and urged community members to cooperate with law enforcement to uphold security. The arrest of Barrie underscores the need for heightened awareness and vigilance regarding the circulation of military uniforms, which could pose security threats if misused.

The police’s swift response and the community’s support will be vital in maintaining a secure environment in Bo and its surrounding regions.
