The late Justice Ivan Ansumana Sesay has been laid to rest at his hometown in Rotifunk, Moyamba District in Southern Sierra Leone.

The interment saw senior members of the Sierra Leone Judiciary including the Chief Justice, Komba Kamanda, Justice Bintu Al-hadi and Justice Adrian Fisher.

In his address to the mourners, the Chief Justice spoke highly of the late Appeal’s Court Judge while also consoling the mourners. He said the entire Judiciary were present to pay their final respect to their former colleague and senior.

Besides being friendly to all staff irrespective of status, he was also one of the most trusted judges in the Judiciary,” Chief Justice Kamanda said. He added that Justice Sesay’s passing is the will of God.

Also present was Mohamed Kamara, a senior lawyer and friend of the late man. He also consoled the family while assuring them that Justice Sesay was a people’s person and because of that, there are people willing to support the family.

The late Justice Sesay was considered to be an asset to not only the Judiciary but also the Sierra Leone legal profession. His professional mourning started in the 1990s after he completed his studies in the UK.

The late man practised law in Sierra Leone as a sound lawyer before becoming the Executive Director of the Legal Aid Board providing legal representation to poor and unrepresented accused in courts.

Years later, he was called to the bench where he rose to the position of Appeal’s Court Judge until his passing last week.
