Chairman Gbessay Ngobeh of the Kailahun Traders Union has firmly rejected allegations that his leadership collected NLe 30 from traders and NLe 200,000 from the president for market development.

In an interview with Sierraloaded, Ngobeh clarified that the NLe 30 collected from each vendor was utilized to revitalize an abandoned market structure, benefiting the traders.

Ngobeh stated that he has not received any funds from the president, despite a pledge of 200,000 Leones intended to support local vendors. He expressed frustration over the lack of action from local authorities to communicate with the president regarding this commitment. “I have made every effort to ensure that the authorities in Kailahun follow up on the president’s pledge, but little progress has been made,” he said.

Emphasizing his commitment to transparency and accountability, Ngobeh reassured traders of his dedication to serving their interests. “As a son of the soil, I would never betray my community,” he asserted, highlighting the strong support he receives from his fellow traders.

Chairman Ngobeh urged local authorities, including the resident minister and council chairman, to actively pursue the fulfillment of the president’s pledge. He also called for the establishment of proper waste disposal systems, including dustbins, to improve the market environment.

He encouraged traders to have confidence in his leadership, promising to work diligently for their welfare. “I am here to deliver for you, and together we will ensure the success of our market,” he affirmed.
