The Environment Protection Agency of Sierra Leone (EPA-SL) has issued a disclaimer regarding a widely circulated environmental health alert notice on social media.
The agency clarified that the notice is not issued by them, raising concerns about the accuracy and origin of the information.
In a press release dated 21st January 2025, the EPA-SL informed the public that they had not recently conducted any air quality or dust investigations that would substantiate the claims made in the circulating alert. The agency emphasized that any findings from their research or laboratory tests would be publicly shared and clearly explained by them to ensure transparency.
With funding from the World Bank’s Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project (RUSLP) through the Ministry of Finance, the EPA-SL has enhanced its capabilities by acquiring a mobile laboratory. This facility will be instrumental in environmental surveillance and detection as part of the agency’s mandate for regular research activities and response to potential environmental hazards.
The EPA-SL reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring environmental compliance and protection. They encouraged the public to rely on verified information from the agency and to report any suspicious notices to maintain public trust.
For further inquiries, the EPA-SL directed the public to contact Mary Sia Foyah, Senior Public Relations Officer, through the provided contact details.
