Major General Richard Addo Gyane, Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), visited Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu on Thursday at the IGP’s office in Freetown.
This visit coincided with General Gyane’s participation in the closing ceremony of a Child Protection Course for law enforcement officials held at the Freetown International Conference Centre.
During the meeting, General Gyane discussed future training opportunities for the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and highlighted KAIPTC’s significant contributions to police training in Sierra Leone, including previous initiatives on election violence management.
He announced plans to launch a KAIPTC Alumni Chapter in Sierra Leone, enhancing the country’s voice within the organization.
IGP Sellu welcomed General Gyane and expressed appreciation for KAIPTC’s support, acknowledging its role in strengthening the SLP.
He emphasized the importance of ongoing training to bridge knowledge gaps and mentioned a recent study tour to Ghana aimed at transitioning the SLP from a force to a service.
The meeting concluded with General Gyane presenting IGP Sellu with a KAIPTC souvenir, symbolizing the commitment to enhancing police training in Sierra Leone in the future.
