The Kono District Council, under the leadership of Chairman Sahr Augustine Sheku, has partnered with the Council of Paramount Chiefs to embark on a significant road maintenance project in the district.

This initiative, aimed at addressing key infrastructure challenges, has received crucial support from Koidu Limited mining company as part of their corporate social responsibility.

On October 1, 2024, Koidu Limited donated 2,000 litres of fuel to facilitate the transport and delivery of materials for the maintenance of the Fiama road, which connects the district to other chiefdoms. This contribution has provided a much-needed boost to the council’s efforts to improve road conditions, which had long been a concern for the residents.

Public Relations Officer for the Paramount Chiefs, PC Alie Musa, expressed appreciation for the collaboration, noting that this is the first major road project led by the council under Chairman Sheku’s leadership.

He acknowledged the critical role of the mining company in supporting the initiative and commended the various associations, including the Traders Union, Timber Association, and Drivers Union, for their contributions to the effort.

Deputy Chairperson of the Kono District Council, Madam Rebecca Jimmy Yambasu, also highlighted the support received from stakeholders like Mr. Ibrahim Jawara and vehicle owners. She further urged other humanitarian actors to join the cause and continue supporting the district’s development goals.

The youth of the chiefdom have welcomed this development, expressing their gratitude to the district council for heeding their calls for improved infrastructure. They emphasized the importance of this project in fostering economic growth and connectivity within the region.

In her remarks, Madam Yambasu reiterated the council’s commitment to aligning with the development vision of President Julius Maada Bio, vowing to continue mobilizing resources for future initiatives that will uplift the district.

The project is seen as a vital step toward enhancing road networks in Kono District, with the potential to spur further investment and community development.
