During a recent Facebook live chat, Prezo Koroma, a well-known entertainment journalist, opened up about his time in Benghazi and Pademba Road prison.
With 15 years of experience in Sierra Leone’s media and entertainment industries, Koroma was performing his legally mandated duties when he was arrested at the OSD Headquarters in Benghazi.
After being convicted of two charges in court, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Koroma described his two days in Benghazi as feeling like two years of torture, recounting how he and his colleagues were subjected to cruel treatment, tormented, beaten, and even had their hair cut off.
Koroma acknowledged the danger of speaking out, noting that there is no freedom of speech in Sierra Leone, and expressing opinions or sentiments that are unpopular with the government can result in imprisonment, detention, or even death.
