Magistrate Joseph Toby of the Kambia District Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 20-year-old Alhassan Turay to 45 months imprisonment for unlawful possession of suspected Kush.

Turay, a resident of Massama Road near the Kambia District Lorry Park, was apprehended on 14th October 2025 by the Kambia Police Operations Team led by Inspector Nelson Jabba. He was found with 100 wraps of dried green leaves believed to be Kush, a synthetic drug increasingly linked to youth addiction and criminal activity.

Following investigations by the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), Turay was charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited substance. He pleaded guilty during his initial court appearance and was remanded at the Kambia District Correctional Centre. Upon reappearing before the court, he again admitted guilt and was convicted based on the evidence presented.

Magistrate Toby, who also serves as a Peace Ambassador, emphasized his commitment to impartial and resolute rulings, particularly in cases involving dangerous drugs. He handed down the 45-month custodial sentence, reinforcing the judiciary’s zero-tolerance approach to drug proliferation.

This conviction highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and the judiciary to combat the spread and abuse of substances such as Kush, Tramadol, and Cannabis Sativa across Kambia District. Authorities continue to urge community vigilance and cooperation in addressing the growing threat of drug-related offenses.
