The Firawa community, home to the M.C.A Primary School in Firawa, Koinadugu District, northern Sierra Leone, and known as one of Sierra Leone’s underserved areas, urgently requires a bridge to ensure that children can consistently attend school.
A teacher from the school recently highlighted the community’s plight in a video. Detailing the challenges faced during the rainy season, he described how the primary route to the school—a waterway—becomes impassable after heavy rainfall. This often results in many students being unable to attend school for days. While a few brave the waterlogged path, many are forced to stay home, missing out on critical learning opportunities.
The impassable route not only jeopardizes the students’ safety but also their right to continuous education. The teacher has made an earnest appeal to the Sierra Leone government and Non-Governmental Organizations, stressing the urgent need for a bridge.
He emphasizes that without such infrastructure, many children in the Firawa community will be deprived of the education they rightfully deserve.
