The Lawyers Society has expressed appreciation to the Chief Executive of the Campaign for Human Rights & Development International (CHRDI), A M Fatoma, following his keynote address at the organisation’s 2nd Annual General Meeting, where he spoke on institutional governance and democratic reform.

In a statement of gratitude, the Society described Fatoma’s presentation as “motivating and inspiring,” noting that his address on the theme “Institutional Independence and Reforms: Pillars of Democracy” was both insightful and thought-provoking.

According to the Society, Fatoma strongly emphasised that institutional independence should be regarded as a citizen’s right rather than a privilege, adding that meaningful reform remains central to accountability, transparency, and national progress.

His message, the Lawyers Society noted, resonated deeply with participants, particularly his call for unity, consistency, and principled engagement in strengthening democratic institutions.

“We were particularly inspired by your call for unity, consistency, and principled engagement,” the statement added, highlighting the impact of his remarks on members in attendance.

The Society further acknowledged that the keynote address reinforced the importance of safeguarding institutional independence as a foundation for democratic governance and sustainable reform processes.

The 2nd Annual General Meeting brought together legal practitioners and stakeholders to reflect on institutional strengthening, rule of law, and democratic accountability within the justice and governance framework.

CHRDI, through its leadership under A M Fatoma, continues to advocate for human rights protection, institutional reforms, and democratic consolidation in Sierra Leone.
