An Old Boy of the Sierra Leone Grammar School and technology professional, Les B Williams, has donated $18,000 to boost the school’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department.
The donation was made on Wednesday, March 25th, 2026, during the school’s 181st Anniversary Foundation Day and Reminiscence Ceremony held at the school campus in Murray Town, Freetown.
The contribution is aimed at supporting the establishment and upgrading of modern ICT facilities to enhance digital learning and STEM education.
In his address, Mr. Williams conveyed warm greetings from Old Boys across the diaspora, including the SLGS Old Boys Association UK and the SLGS Alumni Associations of North America, particularly the Northeast Chapter, where he serves as president.

He described the school as a historic institution that has shaped leaders since its establishment in 1845.
“Since 1845, this school has been more than just an institution; it has been a sanctuary of knowledge and a forge for leadership,” he stated, adding that the school’s motto, Dioko – I Pursue’, reflects a lifelong pursuit of excellence.
He also emphasized that his academic journey was shaped by the discipline and values acquired at the Grammar School, noting that he later graduated as valedictorian in both his undergraduate and graduate studies, including an MBA in Technology Management from the Stevens Institute of Technology.

Mr. Williams announced a donation of $18,000 for the establishment of an additional world-class Computer Science and Technology Lab, fully equipped to support digital learning and innovation.
He said the project aligns with the school’s vision of strengthening STEM education and will be completed in time for the August 2026 Holiday STEM Club.
He also commended outstanding students, who received the Les Bankole Williams Trophies for STEM Excellence, accompanied by a $50 cash prize during the school’s prize giving ceremony.
He described them as examples of the school’s enduring commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

In response, the Principal of the Sierra Leone Grammar School Rev. Ken Davies expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that the school currently operates two ICT laboratories, which will be fully equipped and expanded into three upgraded ICT facilities with the support.
He thanked Mr. Williams on behalf of the Board, management, and pupils, describing the donation as timely and impactful.
Delivering the foundation address, guest speaker Mr. Anrite Thompson reminded pupils of the weight of belonging to a 181-year-old institution, urging them to uphold its legacy of excellence, discipline, and national service.

He noted that the school has produced influential figures across various sectors and encouraged students to remain ambitious, stating that no dream is too large for a Grammar School pupil.
The ceremony also featured reflections from Old Boys, including Mr. Felix Macauley and Rev. Pinkney Wilhelm, who shared experiences from their time at the school and encouraged current pupils to remain focused and disciplined.

The 181st anniversary Foundation Ceremony concluded with the hoisting of the school flag and the traditional distribution of commemorative pennies to Old Boys, staff, and pupils.
