The Local Unit Commander (LUC) for Bo East Division, Superintendent Ishmael Koroma, on Saturday, 2 May 2026, engaged community stakeholders in Boama Chiefdom to strengthen collaboration on security and crime prevention.
Addressing chiefdom authorities, Supt. Koroma expressed appreciation to stakeholders and residents for their participation, reaffirming his commitment to working closely with the community to enhance safety. He noted that although the area remains generally peaceful, residents must avoid complacency and remain vigilant.
He referenced recent security discussions held in Bo, highlighting concerns over the activities of commercial motorbike riders, commonly known as okada riders, operating along various routes.
Supt. Koroma urged residents to adopt a proactive approach to security by staying observant during both day and night activities. He encouraged them to question unfamiliar individuals and promptly report suspicious behaviour to the police or relevant authorities.
He also addressed legal issues, including repealed laws and associated penalties, and warned against the use and distribution of illicit substances such as tramadol and kush. He cautioned that offenders risk severe penalties, including long-term imprisonment of up to 30 years, and urged residents to remain law-abiding while cooperating with law enforcement.
The meeting concluded peacefully with a question-and-answer session. During the discussion, J.K. Conteh proposed the installation of a temporary police container at the community park, citing the long distance to the nearest police station as a challenge in responding to crime effectively.
Emergency contact hotlines were also shared with participants for use in situations requiring urgent police intervention.
