The newly transferred Local Unit Commander (LUC) to the Kenema division, Murana Eric Kamara has in a meeting, called on the Kenema people to support the police by providing crime-related information.

LUC Kamara’s first task upon entering Kenema was to hold a meeting with the community people of Kenema and its environs; during the engagement, he called on the residents to provide crime-related information to the police and to uncover the mysterious disappearance of three persons in Kenema.

According to the report, Erick Kamara said police work is the same everywhere someone is deployed. He admitted that he met three serious cases on the floor.

He however appealed to the community to have confidence in the police force, adding that this is a modern world of policing; where the community and the police work together in combating crime.

He noted that before now, those who provided information to the police were subjected to some questioning. But he however said, that situation no longer exists in the police force of Sierra Leone. And that is why the police usually meet the community with engagement to ensure proper policing.

He also said that the police population is very small compared to the community; and that his office will always be open to all and sundry for any useful visit.

The new LUC further used the meeting as an opportunity to warn some members of the community to desist from the habit of forcefully initiating people into  secret society. He said, there are similar reports on his table currently.

He disclosed that before now, the Paramount Chief of Nongowa chiefdom PC Mohamed Sadique Kapuwa called on his subjects to desist from such a move. He described Kenema as a city and not a village for such activities.

The new LUC assured all of the continuous peace before, during, and after the June 24 general elections.

LUC Murana Eric Kamara replaced LUC Morie Kamara at the Kenema Police Division.
