Magistrate Sahr Kekura delivered a decisive judgment on Monday, July 15, 2024, sentencing Alusine Jalloh, a 32-year-old mason, to 18 months in jail following his guilty plea to charges of wounding.

The incident occurred on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Vincent Drive, Malama, Lumley in Freetown, where Jalloh maliciously wounded Solomon Koroma and caused him actual bodily harm during an altercation.

During the trial, Jalloh admitted to the charges, explaining to the court that he was involved in a fight with three other individuals when Solomon Koroma intervened to separate them. In the course of this intervention, Jalloh unintentionally injured Koroma. Jalloh pleaded for leniency, asking the court to consider his remorse and the circumstances of the incident.

In response, Magistrate Kekura weighed the severity of the offenses against Jalloh’s plea for mercy. Despite the defendant’s plea, the court found Jalloh guilty on two counts: malicious wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The prosecution, led by Inspector Sellu TAP, presented evidence that supported the charges, leading to the conviction.

In delivering the sentence, Magistrate Kekura emphasized the need for accountability and deterrence in cases involving violence. He imposed a sentence of 18 months imprisonment on Jalloh. Alternatively, Jalloh was given the option to pay a fine of two thousand Leones to the State.
